In the peaceful town of Mysore, there lived a young professor named Arvind Rao. He was well-educated, witty, and loved playing harmless pranks. His wife, Leela, came from a large and respected family in Bengaluru. Leela was gentle, kind, and adored her husband, though she often shook her head at Arvind's witty mischiefs.
When Arvind married Leela, he became fond of her entire family. But there was one person who he was jealous of Leela’s elder brother-in-law, Raghav Iyer, a retired judge. Raghav was respected by everyone in the family. He spoke with authority, expected discipline, and was proud of his own intelligence.
Leela always use to praise her bother in law Ragav and use to often challenge Arvind that he cannot compete with her brother-in-law in any manner. Arvind secretly wondered, what if I could fool even someone as wise as him?
And then Arvind created a master plan, a plan to befool Ragav. One day, Arvind told Leela, “I am going to play a little prank on your brother-in-law. Leela knew her husband very well so she got a bit worried as she knew the mischievous activities of her husband. Don’t worry, it will be harmless.” - Arvind cajoled Leela and shared his master plan with her, Leela laughed nervously but agreed.
Arvind disguised himself as a new driver and entered Raghav’s household under the name ‘Gopal’. Wearing a simple uniform and speaking in a rustic accent, he behaved like an innocent man eager to learn. Raghav, pleased with his manners, hired him immediately. The family, of course, had no idea that this humble driver was none other than their own Arvind!
Arvind, as Gopal, started executing his masterplan. He pretended not to understand simple instructions, mixed up English words, and sometimes even corrected Raghav’s grammar in a funny way. The proud judge, who never liked being corrected, grew irritated yet oddly impressed with this “driver’s intelligence.”
Meanwhile, Leela visited the house often, trying hard not to laugh at the sight of her husband acting so earnestly in his disguise.
Once the entire family went for a ride and Arvind alias Gopal was driving the car, a small discussion on a political topic started amongst Leela and Ragav. Arvind was just listening to their words without interfering, but when he realized that Ragav was getting heavier on Leela then he jumped into the discussion and gave a defeating logic to Ragav.
Raghav, though slightly unsettled, grew fond of Gopal. He often told his wife, “I've never seen a driver like this.”
Finally, after weeks of fun and laughter, Arvind decided it was time to end the prank. One evening, in front of the entire family, Gopal suddenly removed his cap and spoke in his normal voice:
“Raghav ji, I am not your driver. I am your brother-in-law, Arvind.”
There was stunned silence. Then the entire household burst into laughter. Raghav’s face turned red, but soon even he began chuckling.
“You fooled me, Arvind! No one has ever managed that before. I admit defeat,” he said with a smile.
From then on, Raghav and Arvind became close friends. Whenever the family gathered, they laughed about the “driver incident.” Arvind continued his little jokes, but everyone knew they came from a place of love, not malice.
